How to Dine Out Healthy

    • 1). It is very important to choose the right restaurant. Pick one that you know has healthy alternatives you can order. Do not go to restaurants that are known for having super sized portions. Do not go to all you can eat buffets.

    • 2). Ask for a doggie bag or box when you start your meal. Put half of your food away before you start eating so that you can take it home and have it for another meal.

    • 3). Do not order any beverages that contain calories. Stick with water or iced tea. Alcohol, fruit juices and soft drinks add calories without satisfying you, making it hard for you to lose weight if you eat at restaurants.

    • 4). Order a soup and salad instead of an entree. Ask the server to put the salad dressing on the side. Dip your fork into the salad dressing every time you take a bite so that you consume only a little and keep your calorie intake low.

    • 5). If the restaurant offers a bread basket, say no.

    • 6). If you order appetizers, make sure it is healthy by avoiding deep fried ones.

    • 7). Choose entries that are grilled, baked, broiled, blackened, roasted, poached, stewed, braised, steamed, not fried.

    • 8). Instead of getting mashed potatoes, fries, rice, or pasta as your side dish, go for steamed vegetables.

    • 9). Either skip dessert or choose it wisely. You can find more information on choosing a healthy dessert here:
