- 1). Navigate to "Windows Update" on your computer. Run updates for your Vista program. Restart your computer once the current update completes.
- 2). Click the "Start" button at the bottom of your desktop. This will open the "Start" menu.
- 3). Select "Control Panel" from the "Start" menu.
- 4). Move to the "Hardware and Sound" section in the Control Panel.
- 5). Open the "Device Manager" in "Hardware and Sound."
- 6). Locate the audio driver under the "Sound" tab and click it.
- 7). Move to the "Driver" tab at the top of the dialog box. Click "Update Driver," select the option that allows Vista to search for a device diver. Allow the new driver to load and restart your computer. If no new driver is found, select "Reinstall the audio driver" from the dialog box. While you have the dialog box open, write down the manufacturer name for your audio card.
- 8). Locate the manufacturer's website for your audio card. If Windows is unable to provide you with a driver, you will need to locate one on the manufacturer's website. Click "Support" on the website and locate the driver downloads for your device. Download the driver listed for Vista. Save the driver in a location that will be easy for you to find on your hard drive.
- 9). Return to the Control Panel and the update driver window. Attempt to load a new driver again but select the option that allows you to find the driver on your computer (specified location). Locate the driver you downloaded and let Windows install it.
