- 1). Wrap ribbon around the different metal pieces of the bag stand. Use ribbon in the texture and color of your choice to add a decorative appeal to the harsh piece of gym equipment. Secure the base of the ribbon with tape or urethane glue and wrap it tightly until it hits the end of the metal piece. Cut from the ribbon roll and secure the other end into place. Repeat on any section of the bag stand.
- 2). Use a high-gloss acrylic paint for creating designs and patterns throughout your bag stand. Remove the punching bag to avoid accidentally painting. Use a fine-tipped brush to create detail, a filbert-style brush to blend or accent colors or a bright-style brush to apply large areas of color. Take advantage of the shape of the bag stand components to create long, narrow patterns like zig-zags or swirls.
- 3). Collect a large number of stickers related to boxing, martial arts or whatever sport you use the bag stand for. Place the stickers throughout the metal on the bag stand to display your eclectic collection. Arrange in a collage-style fashion, with stickers overlapping, or arrange them one next to the other.
- 4). Turn your bag stand into a distinctive piece of art that sticks out in your gym. Use urethane glue to attach small random objects, like seashells, glass tile, twigs, toys or anything else you find. Place the objects only at locations on the stand where they won't interfere with its use.
