- 1). Go to "File", "Open" and select the photo you want to turn into desktop wallpaper. Click "Open".
- 2). Select the Crop tool from the Tools panel. It is the second to last tool in the first set of tools.
- 3). Go to the Options Bar, set the width and height to the pixel size of your computer monitor. Next, set the resolution to 72 pixels per inch, which is the default display size for computer screens. Your settings should resemble this: "Width: 1024 px", "Height: 768 px" and "Resolution: 72 pixels/inch".
- 4). Click and drag the Crop tool on the photo.
- 5). Resize and reposition the crop marquee until it contains the photo's subject. Depending on the size of the original photo, you may need to crop off part of the picture.
- 6). Double-click inside the marquee to crop the image. The crop tool resizes everything inside the marquee to match the desktop resolution you entered into the options bar.
- 7). Go to "File", "Save as". Select "JPEG" from the drop-down "Format" menu and check the box next to "As a Copy".
- 8). Enter a new file name and then click "Save".
