- 1). Navigate to the Dell Support website and download the latest Windows Vista -- or XP driver if you're using that operating system-- driver for the Dell Inkjet 720 Printer. Dell does not provide a Windows 7 specific driver for the printer. However, the Vista driver works fine in Windows 7. Download the driver and save it to a folder on your computer.
- 2). Click "Start" and then "Computer." Navigate to the folder in which you saved the downloaded driver file for the Dell 720 printer. Double-click the file to launch the "Dell Printer Solution Center" installation utility. Accept the software license terms and conditions, then click "Next" to begin the installation. Wait while the utility installs files to your computer and prompts you for further action.
- 3). Power on the 720 printer when the installation utility prompts you to connect the printer to the computer. Ensure there is paper in the paper tray and connect the USB cable to the printer and an empty USB port on the computer. Wait for the printer to cycle and warm up. After the printer "Status" light stops blinking, click the "OK" button in the installer utility window.
- 4). Wait while the "Dell Printer Solution Center" installation utility detects the printer and configures the drivers on your computer. When prompted to do so, click the "Print Test Page" button to send a test page to the Dell 720 printer. Once the printer prints test page, click the "Finish" button to close the installation utility.
