Tips on Pizza Parties

    Ingredients

    • Keep the needs of your guests in mind when thinking about the ingredients for your pizza. Vegetarians, for instance, don't want a pizza with meat, while specialty pizzas like Canadian bacon and pineapple may only appeal to a few guests. Try to solicit preferences before your pizza party--ask for them on the RSVP, if you're sending out invitations--and only order food you think your guests will want. If you're in doubt, stick to basics like pepperoni or sausage, and have at least one plain cheese pizza available: vegetarians can eat it, but it appeals to non-vegetarians, as well.

    Make It Yourself

    • Ordering pizza to be delivered often makes sense for a pizza party, but in some cases--especially with little kids--it can be fun to make the pizza yourself. Buy all of the ingredients you'll need: mozzarella, tomato sauce, toppings and crusts. Look for 8-inch crusts or smaller, so that every guest can prepare one himself. Lay out the ingredients in bowls and allow your guests to top a pizza themselves before they put it in the oven. Most pizzas need to cook at 450 degrees for about 30 minutes, though the crust you buy may have specific instructions.

    Activities

    • Pizza parties may already involve other activities--if you're watching the ball game, for example, or have a video game system set up--but if you're looking for fun things to match the mood, come up with a few of your own. If your pizza party is for kids, see about getting some unused pizza boxes from the nearest pizzeria, then hold contests to see who can fold them into shapes the quickest. Play a variant of musical chairs, only with round cardboard "pizzas" instead of chairs, or set up a game of hide and seek by having the kids find a circular cardboard "pizza" you decorated and hid before the party. If your party consists of grown-ups, consider popping in a movie with a pizza theme--"Toy Story," "Spider-Man 2" and "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" all involve pizza delivery--or play a themed video game like Pizza Tycoon.
