- 1). Keep all milk products in their original packaging, such as a plastic container or cardboard carton, when storing them. Pour the desired amount of milk into a glass or serving carafe and return the original container or carton to the refrigerator immediately: Never leave fresh milk products out at room temperature.
- 2). Store the milk products in a refrigerator set at, or below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep the container or carton closed at all times as milk can absorb refrigerator odors.
- 3). Keep the milk products in the refrigerator for up to five days beyond its labeled "sell-by" date. Discard any fluids that smells "off" or are curdled.
- 4). Freeze pasteurized milk in a freezer set at 0 degrees Fahrenheit for up to three months. The product's texture and consistency may change during the freezing process. Do not freeze cream or buttermilk.
- 5). Thaw frozen milk in your refrigerator. Thawing it on the counter will promote bacterial growth. Stir it well, before using.
