- 1). Select the player closest to the player with the ball; with an Xbox you will tap the "B" button. Gauge your defensive positioning. Knowing which kind of tackle to make is, first and foremost, a matter of positioning. Figure out whether your player is behind, in front of or to the side of the offensive player with the ball. Where your player is in relation to the player with the ball will determine which mode or method of tackling your defender will perform.
- 2). Move your defensive player, with the joystick controller, as close to the offensive player with ball as possible. On the Xbox, hold the right trigger controller to sprint, which you'll probably need to do. Once your player is touching the offensive player, he will perform the tackle automatically. However, if a specialty tackle is required, refrain from making contact until you've pushed the relative buttons.
- 3). Notice the offensive player's position to the sideline and how he's holding the ball. Then decide what kind of tackle to make. If an ordinary tackle will work, then just move your player into contact with him. If he is running at your player with momentum, you might want to use the hit stick, which is done by moving the "Right thumb stick" up and down. If he's about to get past you, press the "X" button for a diving tackle. If you think you have the opportunity to cause a fumble, then press the "Left bumper" as you make contact with him. Press the "A" button for a defensive assist if it's necessary.
