Ford Fusion Specifications

    • The Ford Fusion is a mid-sized car positioned between the Focus and Taurus in Ford's lineup. It offers a number of different four- and six-cylinder engine and transmission choices, including a hybrid option, as well as a number of safety and technology features, such as the Ford-Microsoft SYNC in-car computer system.

    Exterior Dimensions

    • The Ford Fusion is 190.6 inches long and rides on a 107.4 inch wheelbase. It is 56.8 inches tall and 72.2 inches wide, not counting the mirrors, which add 7.9 inches to its width.

    Interior Dimensions

    • Passengers in the front seat of the Fusion enjoy 38.7 inches of headroom, 57.4 inches of shoulder room, 54 inches of hip room and 42.3 inches of legroom. Its back seat is almost as commodious, offering just 0.9 inches less head and shoulder room and 0.6 inches less hip room. Even the back seat's legroom is only 5.2 inches less than in the front. The Fusion also has a relatively large trunk of 16.5 cubic feet

    Gasoline Power Train Options

    • Ford offers three different engines and three different transmissions on the non-hybrid variant of the Fusion. The basic inline-four cylinder 2.5-liter engine can be equipped with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission and generates 175 horsepower and 172 foot pounds of torque. Ford also offers two 24-valve six-cylinder engines--a 3.0- and 3.5-liter option. Both come with a six-speed automatic transmission with an "auto-stick" feature and can be optioned with all-wheel drive instead of the standard front-wheel drive. The 3.0-liter V6 generates 240 horsepower and 223 foot-pounds of torque while the 3.5 ups its output to 263 and 249, respectively.

    Gasoline Fuel Efficiency

    • The most fuel efficient non-hybrid Fusion is the four-cylinder variant with automatic transmission, which generates 23 mpg per gallon in the city and 33 on the highway. The least efficient is the all-wheel-drive Fusion with the 3.5 liter engine, which only achieves 17 city mpg and 24 on the highway. Front-wheel drive Fusions have a 17.5-gallon tank and all-wheel-drive models hold 16.5 gallons.

    Hybrid Power Train

    • Ford also offers the Fusion with a different 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a 35-horsepower electric motor. The gasoline engine generates 156 horsepower and 136 foot pounds of torque, but achieves 41 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway. The hybrid's battery pack intrudes slightly into the back seat, reducing legroom by one-half inch, and takes up a great deal of space in the trunk, reducing its capacity by about one-third to 11.8 cubic feet.
