Electricity is not something you want to be messing around with when you are installing a lighting fixture in your home.
Before you start with anything electrical work, make sure the circuit breaker is off so no electricity is going through the house.
This is a big safety precaution that everyone needs to follow when it comes to working with electricity.
Adding or replacing a lighting fixture is a simple and easy process if you have everything you need.
Here is how you install a lighting fixture to add more light in any room.
Installing a light fixture The first thing you need to do when you are installing a new light fixture is to use a test light to insure that the electricity is not going to the outlet.
This will make sure that the outlet used during installation is safe for you while you install the new fixture.
You want to make sure there is no power so that you can get the lights installed safely before turning the power back on.
Take out the old fixture and disconnect the wires, leave the wires alone until you are ready to install the new fixture in its place.
Clean up the area around the old fixture to make sure the new one goes right back into the space cleanly.
You might have to sand the area down with sandpaper for a smooth seal.
Connect the wires to the new fixture in the same places as the old one to ensure that you are connecting the wires in the correct place.
if wires are crossed it is dangerous and could short out the new fixture and cause a fire.
Install the base of the light fitting into the opening.
After that is installed properly, you can assemble the outer housing of which various different styles are available to give your light your own personal character or design.
You do not want to have a light that does not have an outer covering because then the wires will be exposed to the elements in the house and cause a serious health risk from electrocution.
Fitting a Bathroom electric outlet As with fitting your light fixture (and any other electrical work) make sure the fuse box is shut off so there is no chance of you being electrocuted.
Changing an outlet in the bathroom is very similar to changing any other outlets in the home except for you are around water.
Water and electricity do not mix so you need to make sure the breaker switch (fuse box) is off.
Take your test light and check the outlet after you shut the breaker off to ensure there is no power going to the outlet.
After you have done this, it is time to start replacing the old power outlet.
The first thing you need to take off is the cover panel to the outlet.
To remove this, a center screw usually holds it in place, unscrew this screw and the cover will come off.
Once the cover is off you are able to see the other two screws that hold the outlet to the wall.
Take the top and the bottom screw out to remove the actual outlet from the socket, now you should be able to see the electrical wires attached to the outlet.
Remove the wires but make sure you know what side they go on when you are installing the new outlet.
Now that the old outlet is removed it is time to install the new one.
Follow the steps in reverse to make sure you do not forget anything, and ensure the wires are replaced in the same positions.
Connect the wires to the same side of the outlet that you took them off so you do not reverse the power to the outlet.
You do not want a loose wire in the wall when you turn the power back on to the bathroom so make sure all screws are tightened properly.
Once those screws are tight, put the two screws that hold the outlet in place to the wall.
After you tighten them, shake the outlet to make sure it does not move in the wall.
Replace the outer cover over the outlet and turn the power on.
Test the outlet with the test light to make sure you have power going to the outlet.
