- 1). Power down the laptop. Remove all cords and peripheral devices.
- 2). Turn the laptop over to access the bottom of the laptop case.
- 3). Locate the rectangular cover over the memory bay. The cover will have two small Philips-head screws holding it in place.
- 4). Unscrew the two screws and remove the rectangular cover. The installed RAM will be visible and accessible.
- 5). Open the clamps on both sides of the top RAM strip and carefully pop out the strip. Remove the strip and set aside.
- 6). Open the clamps on both sides of the bottom RAM strip. Carefully remove the strip and set aside.
- 7). Insert the replacement memory strip into the bottom slot. Carefully press downward until the strip clicks into place. Repeat for the top strip.
- 8). Replace the memory bay cover and screws.
- 9). Boot up the HP DV7 and verify the memory by clicking the Windows "Start" button and selecting Control Panel. Click the System icon and note the values in the Memory section of the System Specifications page.
