- 1). Measure the areas of the dirt bike where the graphics will be placed to ensure that the graphics are designed to scale. Using a computer graphics program, design the outline of your desired graphics. Individuals with freehand artistic talents can also draw the graphics design onto a piece of plain white paper. Common dirt bike graphics include racing numbers, tribal style patterns and fun designs. The important thing is to create a design that reflects your personal style.
- 2). Print out the computer design in black and white, or make copies of hand drawn sketches. Cut around the perimeter of the design using scissors so that you end up with your graphics in paper form.
- 3). Purchase sheets, or rolls, of graphics vinyl from a local or online sign shop. Vinyl for graphics use is available in a wide variety of colors and finishes. Choose colors that match your design.
- 4). Place the vinyl on a flat surface. Tape the cutout design to the vinyl and carefully trace around the cutout with a pen that will be visible against the vinyl color. Once the design has been fully traced onto the vinyl, gently remove the paper cutout. Cut along the traced line using sharp scissors or a utility knife. Pay close attention to the cut lines, because these will be the final outline of your graphics.
- 5). Place the graphics against the dirt bike with the adhesive vinyl backing still in place to check size and placement. Clean and dry the plastic thoroughly using hot water and soap with a clean rag. Peel off a small section of the vinyl backing, and place the adhesive graphic onto the bike. Using your fingers, gently smooth out the air bubbles before peeling another section of backing and smoothing it over until the entire graphic has been applied.
