- 1). Secure a masonry drill bit into the chuck of a hammer drill. Use a masonry drill bit that measures the same diameter as the shaft on the anchor.
- 2). Hold the masonry drill bit at a 90-degree angle to the concrete surface so you drill straight into the concrete. Do not drill at an angle. Drill a hole into the concrete that goes slightly deeper than the non-threaded portion of the anchor. This means, the length of the anchor without the threaded stud. This ensures the anchor seats flush with the top of the concrete and the stud protrudes out of the concrete. If you drill the hole shallow, it reduces the gripping strength of the anchor, which could cause the anchor to pull out of the concrete.
- 3). Tap the top of the stud to push the anchor into the hole with a hammer until the top edge of the anchor rests flush with the top of the concrete and the stud protrudes from the concrete.
- 4). Place the item you want to secure to the concrete over the stud, thread the nut into the stud as far as you can with your fingers. Tighten the nut with a wrench. As you thread the nut onto the stud, the wedges on the side of the anchor push into the sidewall of the hole you drilled.
