Burn-In
Burn-in is one of the most common problems with older Sony plasma screen televisions. If you were to leave the same picture or something like your DVR menu on your screen for a long time, old plasma screens would burn the image into the screen, leaving it there forever. Newer Sony plasma screens have built-in technology that shifts the pixels of an image slightly so the image is always moving.
High Altitudes
Plasma screen televisions use gases to create the vivid picture you see. If you live on top of a mountain or in another high-altitude location, your television will have to work harder to create the same image it does at a lower altitude, causing the screen to die a little faster than it might have otherwise.
Overheating
Sony plasma screen televisions generate a great deal of heat when they operate. The screens have a built-in fan to help cool the television. As the TV gets older, that fan can become so loud it is noticeable.
Screen Issues
Plasma screens are much less durable than the traditional glass television screens. If someone threw something accidentally into the screen or even pressed on the screen hard, they could damage the display permanently, leaving a permanent imprint where they pressed against the screen.
Dead Pixels
Individual pixels on your plasma screen can die out, causing a fireworks-like effect on your screen where the dead pixel is. If your screen is under warranty when a pixel dies, Sony will typically replace the set.
