Although you may not think you need to do it, you should in fact be trying to look after your dog's teeth in much the same way you do yours.
Certainly in the beginning it may be somewhat difficult for you actually to carry out the process for ensuring that their teeth remain in the best condition possible.
But as long as you take it slowly at first and get them used to the procedure you will soon find it is much easier in the future.
Below we provide you with some guidelines which should help to make the process of cleaning your dog's teeth much easier.
So where does one begin when it comes to looking after dog's teeth? 1.
It is important that you make this procedure as much fun as possible for both you and your dog.
So be as upbeat as possible when doing it and only carry out the procedure for a very short period of time.
Also through out the time you are touching their teeth keep praising them.
2.
Once they have got use to you placing things in their month, you now need to move on to the next stage.
What you need to do is dip the tip of your finger into some beef sauce (bouillon) and allow them to lick this off.
Then next time what you need to do is allow them to let you start rubbing the finger with the bouillon on it over their teeth and gums.
You need to do this for a few sessions, and after a while you will find that they actually like you doing this and you can move on to the next stage.
3.
The next stage is to get a piece of gauze and you can either dip it in some bouillon before introducing it to your dog's mouth or just leave it with nothing on.
Then over the next few sessions you need to take the piece of gauze (fresh piece each time) and gently rub it over their teeth using circular movements.
It may take some time for them to get use to this but remember to keep praising them at all times.
4.
Finally once they have got use to the gauze you can now move on to the next stage of using a toothbrush or other canine dental cleaning tool.
In the beginning why not allow them to lick something tasty off of it as this will help them to get used to the texture of the tool that you are using.
5.
After a few sessions with them getting use to the feel of the toothbrush you can then start to place toothpaste on to it.
In the beginning let them lick some of the toothpaste off of your finger and also apply a little to their gum line as well.
By doing this not only will they get use to the flavor but also to the consistency of the toothpaste as well.
After following the guidelines set out above you will find that in no time at all you will be able to use a toothbrush with toothpaste on it to clean their teeth properly.
If you can aim to clean their teeth on a daily basis as the more often you brush them the better their condition will be.
