A Cheap and Easy Way to Potty Train a Puppy

What happens if you see your puppy turn around in circles inside the house right after mealtime? You PANIC! You know that your puppy will defecate or urinate inside the house.
And you just scrubbed the floor a few minutes ago.
The best thing for you to do is RUN! Run and get a newspaper (It's cheap and always easy to find).
Your puppy will just calmly sit on the newspaper and eliminate on it.
That is, of course, if your puppy has been Paper Trained.
Why potty train a puppy to use paper instead of a crate? Everybody agrees that crate training your puppy will have him know where his boundaries lie.
However, crate training a puppy requires a lot of time and effort.
Unfortunately, this is not an option for everyone.
Potty training a puppy works best for those who live in apartments and don't have an easy access to a yard.
So if you live in a high rise apartment and if it's just not easy for you to take your puppy outside for a walk puppy potty training means paper training.
So here are some tips on how to potty train a puppy to the use of paper First, think of the most convenient place in your house that you want to paper train your puppy.
Of course, you wouldn't want to potty train a puppy in the living room where there could be a carpet lying around.
Or for that matter inside your bedroom, unless you want to sleep in the stench.
Most people feel more comfortable potty training puppies to use paper in the corner of the kitchen or the laundry room.
These places are often tiled and hygiene is not going to be a big issue, location is up to you Newspaper of course is the easiest and cheapest paper Now, after choosing a spot, spread some newspaper on to it.
Make the area the newspaper covers a bit bigger than you will eventually want it, because your puppy doesn't yet have any idea what the paper is all about.
To make sure that your puppy eliminates on the paper, you can use a couple of tricks such as putting newspaper on the whole floor (if the room is not that big); or try to barricade your puppy inside the newspaper area by erecting barriers to keep him in (I think this is the best way to do it).
Remember to have the newspaper on the floor only when your puppy is about to go (like after meal); otherwise, if you keep the whole floor with newspaper the whole day your puppy would not give much notice because he sees the newspaper regularly.
The goal for spreading the newspaper and keeping your puppy inside it is to have your puppy feel accustomed to the feeling of the paper in his toes when relieving himself.
My next puppy potty training tip Your puppy will gradually get used to the feeling of the newspaper and relieving on it.
So after about two weeks you can start to decrease the area of the floor you have covered with newspaper.
Your rule should be to decrease the size of the papered floor whenever you see progress.
Always keep in mind that your puppy will continue to potty on the papered floor as long as you give him praise and positive reinforcement.
Good Luck
