My GE Dishwasher's Telescoping Arm Will Not Go Back Down

    Spray Arm

    • The water that flows through the spray arm must be strong enough to rotate the arm. If the water pressure is too low, the arm may not rotate fully and can get stuck. Verify that the household water pressure is 20 psi or more and try avoiding the use of other water-based appliances when the dishwasher is in use. Contact a plumber for assistance if the entire household water pressure seems low.

    Food Particles and Dishes

    • Sometimes the spray arm can get stuck due to food residue and debris that gets caught on the tower, impeding the progress of the tower. Wipe the spray arm tower and arms using a clean, damp cloth, removing any debris, objects or residue that might be causing the problem. Check for dishes that were loaded improperly and are creating obstructions as well. Move items as needed so that the spray tower is not stopped during the cycle when rotating.

    Interrupted Cycle

    • The spray arm may get stuck if the dishwasher cycle was stopped mid-cycle but not properly restarted. Close the dishwasher door if the cycle was stopped mid-cycle and allow the dishwasher to continue the wash cycle. If the cycle was stopped by pressing “Start/Reset,” then select a new wash cycle and press “Start/Reset” one more time to start the new wash cycle and reset the spray tower.

    Reset

    • If the telescoping spray tower remains stuck in position after cleaning the tower, tap the tower firmly. This should cause the tower to lower automatically. If the tower does not lower, press “Stop/Cancel” and disconnect power to the dishwasher to perform a reset. Wait 30 seconds and reconnect power, then select a new wash cycle and touch “Start.” If the spray arm tower remains stuck after the new wash cycle, contact GE for service.
