How to Fit an HP Color Laserjet 4600 Maintenance Kit

Replacing and Resetting the Fuser Assembly

    • 1). Turn off and unplug your printer. Let it cool for 15-20 minutes before touching the fuser assembly. Use the side handles on the top cover to lift the top cover open and view the fuser assembly.

    • 2). Locate and loosen the two blue thumb screws near the control panel underneath the top cover to release the fuser assembly. Lift the fuser straight up and out of the printer. Install the new one by inserting it straight down and tightening the two blue thumbscrews. Close the top cover.

    • 3). Press the "Check" button on the control panel to open the printer menu. Press the "Down" arrow until the words "Configure Device" are highlighted, and then click the "Check" button to select it. Press the "Down" arrow until the word "Resets" is highlighted, and then click the "Check" button again. Press "Down" until you see and highlight "Reset Supplies," and then press the "Check" button. Use the "Down" arrow to scroll to "New Fuser Kit," and click the "Check" button once the choice is highlighted. Finally, press the "Down" arrow until "Yes" is highlighted and press the "Check" button to reset the fuser count.

    Replacing the Cassette Feed Rollers

    • 1). Open the front door by pulling it down and toward you to view the transfer unit. Pull down on the green handle on the transfer unit to view the toner cartridges.

    • 2). Remove each cartridge (one at a time) by grasping the blue handles on each side and pulling the toner straight out. Set them aside.

    • 3). Look in the area below where the toner cartridges would be, and locate the two white feed rollers. Remove these by firmly grabbing one and pulling it up off the metal shaft. Take the other one off in the same way. Install the new feed rollers by lining up the pegs on the rollers with the holes in the shaft.

Replacing the Manual Feed Roller and Separation Pad

    • 1). Pull the paper tray out of the printer. Locate the two white tabs in the front corners on both top sides of the paper tray. Rotate these counterclockwise while slightly pulling up until they're free of the machine. You can view a picture showing the exact location using the Reference links.

    • 2). Gently remove the paper tray's front cover by pulling the left end out and then the right. Use your screwdriver to pop up the blue tab located on the bottom of the roller. Pull the roller up and out of the tray. Use your screwdriver to pry the separation pad up and out of the tray.

    • 3). Install the new separation pad by firmly pressing down on both sides of it until it locks into place. Install the new feed roller into the tray. Make sure to pinch the blue tab in so it will lock into place. Put the front tray cover back on, reinstall the white tabs, and put the tray back into the printer. Plug the printer in, power it up and test.
