- 1). Take your TomTom with you whenever you leave your vehicle and always check that you still have it when you get home. The easiest thing to do is to keep your TomTom under close observation so that it's not lost or stolen in the first place, because tracking it down is not easy.
- 2). Assign TomTom buddies. This feature, available on the TomTom, allows your TomTom's current position to be seen on your buddy's TomTom screen. Select TomTom buddies from the TomTom "Services" menu, click "Invite New Buddy" and enter the buddy's email address for their TomTom. Once the buddy accepts the invitation you can view your TomTom's location on your buddy's GPS, which can help you track it if you misplace or lose it.
- 3). Inform TomTom support, and the local police, that your TomTom is missing. There is no way the company can track your TomTom if it goes missing because it's a passive receiver rather than a transmitter. However, if your TomTom was stolen, giving the serial number to the police will help them to return it if it is recovered.
