- 1). Shut off the water to the sink by twisting the knobs under the sink clockwise until tight. If your faucet uses separate knobs for hot and cold water, you can shut off only the valve for the knob you want to replace. Hot is on the left and cold on the right.
- 2). Remove the decorative cap on top of the faucet knob to locate the screw underneath, using the flat edge of a screwdriver, or inspect the valve below the knob to locate a hollow set screw.
- 3). Extract the screw in the top of the knob using a screwdriver, or loosen the set screw in the side of the valve below the knob, using an Allen wrench.
- 4). Pull the knob straight off the valve assembly.
- 5). Lower the new knob into position and turn it to orient the socket on the knob with the shape on the tip of the spindle, then push down gently to seat the new part.
- 6). Replace the screw in the center of the new knob or tighten the set screw in the side with an Allen wrench, depending on your faucet type. Snap on the decorative cap on top of the new knob, if your knob uses a cap.
- 7). Turn the knob below the sink counter-clockwise to restore the water.
