2011 Ford Mustang Specs

    • The 2011 Mustang slightly resembles those of the 1960s.red hot mustang image by Leticia Wilson from Fotolia.com

The Mustang began its storied history April 17, 1964, when it first reached showroom floors. The Mustang nearly became a two-seat car with mid-mounted V-4 engine, as the first Mustang concept showed in 1962. Thankfully, Ford chose the second Mustang concept design from 1963 from which to build this legendary car. In the 2011 model-year, Ford redeemed itself for the 1970's Mustang II -- a rather hated version among enthusiasts -- to bring about one of the best-performing Mustang lineups ever.

    Engines

    • Ford has always offered a six-cylinder engine in the Mustang. In 2011, the V-6 option is a 3.7-liter V-6 with 24 valves and dual overhead cams. This V-6 produces 305 horsepower at 6,500 rpm -- 95 more horsepower than 2010's V-6 -- and 280 foot-pounds of torque at 4,250 rpm. The 2011 Mustang GT trim level uses a 5-liter, 32-valve, DOHC V-8 engine producing 412 horsepower at 6,500 rpm -- 97 more horsepower than 2010's V-8 -- and 390 foot-pounds of torque 4,250 rpm.

    Transmissions

    • The 2001 Ford Mustang has two transmission options. The base transmission is a six-speed manual, and the optional transmission is a six-speed automatic.

    Fuel

    • Ford tuned the 2011 Mustang to both perform well and get acceptable fuel economy. The V-6 mustang gets 18 to 19 miles-per-gallon in the city and 29 to 30 mpg on the highway. The Mustang GT with the V-8 gets 16 to 18 mpg in the city and 24 to 25 mpg on the highway. All 2011 Mustangs come equipped with a 16-gallon fuel tank.

    Interior

    • Staying true to its roots, the Mustang has seating for four people. It has 38.8 inches of front headroom, 36.5 inches of rear headroom, 42.4 inches of front legroom, 29.8 inches of rear legroom, 55.3 inches of front shoulder room, 45 inches of rear shoulder room, 53.4 inches of front hip room and 45.2 inches of rear hip room. The 2011 Mustang has room for up to 13.4 cubic feet of cargo in coupe models and 9.6 cubic feet in the convertible.

    Options

    • The 2011 Mustang has two main trim-levels, V-6 and GT. Within the two main trim-levels there are two option packages, base and premium. The premium package added several high-end amenities. A leather-trimmed steering wheel and leather interior is added, as is a navigation system, multi-directional power seats, and Ford's telematic system -- known as "Sync."

    Exterior

    • The 2011 Mustang measures 188.1 inches long, 73.9 inches wide, 55.6 to 56.1 inches high, and has a 107.1 inch wheelbase. The Mustang's curb weight ranges from 3,603 to 4,000 lb. This Mustang had two different body styles in both the V-6 and GT: coupe and convertible.
