- 1). Open a program of your choice. The best programs to run multiple instances of are anything that can be set in the background and takes a long time to run, such as video encoders or rendering programs.
- 2). Import the file or project to be worked on. Make the finishing touches, then save, export or render the project.
- 3). Open the program again by double-clicking the program's shortcut either in the "Start" menu or on the desktop. Now work on a second project while the first renders, or set both to render at the same time using different cores.
- 4). Right-click on the taskbar, then select "Start Task Manager." Click on the Processes tab.
- 5). Right-click on the rendering program's process and click "Set Affinity." Select "CPU 0" and "CPU 1." Click "OK."
- 6). Right-click on the other instance of the program. Select "Set Affinity," then select "CPU 2" and "CPU 3." Click "OK." You are now fully utilizing a quad-core CPU.
