When we think about diapers, the first name that comes to our mind is Pampers. Pampers is one of the leading brands in baby care products and disposable diapers in India and abroad. Marketed by Procter & Gamble, Pampers was established in the year 1961. Invented by Victor Mills, an American Chemical engineer who worked under Procter & Gamble Co. Known for their quality, Pampers diapers came into invention because of a dissatisfied grand father who was looking for better ways of diaper changing for his grandson. With each passing year, Pampers have redesigned their diapers to make it skin-friendly for babies and easy on the parents wallet.
Making of Pamper diapers
Pampers was the first company to come up with the concept of easy-to-use diapers and is thus popular among new parents around the globe. In the year, 1950, Victor Mills became a grand father to a newborn and disliked changing cloth diapers. He wanted to create diapers that were easy to use and comfortable hence assigned few researchers in the P&G's Explanatory Division to find ways to make disposable diapers. He showed the world that a grandfather knows more than a father by working towards the making of disposable diapers. In 1961, the first disposable diaper was shipped from Pampers and was found in every aisle of a supermarket because they did not know where and in which category should it belong. Mill's tested his creation on his grandson and found that disposable diapers were way more convenient for parents and comfortable for babies than cloth diapers. Earlier diapers were bulky and heavy with rayon top sheet and polyethylene backsheet. €Wingfold' design disposable diapers were introduced in 1966 and in 1971, the company replaced the pin-on design with tapes so that parents could easily keep a track of what was going on in the diaper without hurting their fingers. Diapers were also introduced for toddlers and premature babies. Pampers had taken a giant leap in innovative diapers by introducing value packs with additional diapers and thin diapers that came with absorbent gels. These diapers were light in weight and had features like elastic leg gathers for a comfortable fit, tabs that can be fastened along with the inclusion of a softer liner for a rash-free experience. In the 90's, Pampers rejected bulky diapers and introduced Ultra Thins diapers that could absorb more than other diapers. Stretch panels were incorporated in the disposable diapers that gave babies better comfort. Pampers has divided its age groups based in newborns (0-5 months), Baby (6-12 months), toddler (13-23 months) and preschool (24+ months).
