Things are looking up in our society, and more of a focus is being put on eating healthy and becoming fit.
Unfortunately there is so much that needs to be done it could take years to get basic information out to the public.
I have good news for you; you can easily turn your life around by creating some healthy eating habits now; you don't have to wait for new policies to take places and super markets to stop selling packaged foods (like this will ever happen).
First things first, take a step back and look at the food you are eating.
Is it healthy? Does it contain the right amount of vitamins and minerals? For some this is hard to decipher.
Here's a good rule of thumb, if it is not grown on a tree, in the ground, or even butchered, then you probably should not be eating it.
Now, this does not apply for everything.
White rice, for example, is grown but is not good for you.
You want to focus on whole grains here, not white flour or white rice.
But, that is about the only loop-hole when it comes to good, clean eating.
Now that you know this, take a look at the portion sizes you are eating.
Are you passed full when you stop eating? Do have an incessant need to finish everything that is on your plate? Is there any room on your plate after you have served your food? The portion sizes that a human body can effectively handle are much smaller than most of us think.
A bowl of cereal, for example; the nutritional label will tell you a cup but a true portion of cereal is only a half a cup.
I say this because most of us eat too much at one sitting.
If people would simple cut back on their portions and stop eating when they are full, they would automatically lose a few pounds.
Yes, this takes discipline; it does not happen overnight.
How many meals are you eating in a given day? Most people try to fit in three good sized meals, while others struggle to fit in two.
Regardless, neither is what you body needs.
In order for your body to function properly and process these chemicals in an effective manner, it actually needs fuel (or food) every few hours.
What this means is that you need to eat five to six times a day.
Now, this does not mean sit down and eat 500 calorie meals this many times in a day.
What this means is that you divide your overall calorie intake into these meals.
Let's say you need to eat 1800 calories a day to maintain a healthy weight.
You would divide this number by the number of meals you are going to eat and try to keep each meal around that amount.
For example, an 1800 calorie diet consisting of 5 meals a day averages 360 calories per meal.
This is important when you first start to create healthy eating habits because it is easy to overload on calories when you are eating more frequently throughout the day.
Don't worry though, it doesn't take long to create these habits and learn what you can and can't eat on a given day.
Stick with these healthy eating guidelines and you will be on your way to a healthier and fit you in no time at all.
