How to Change the Disc Lock on a Philips 5990 DVD Player

    Locking a Disc

    • 1). Turn on your Philips 5990 DVD player and your TV, if they're not already on.

    • 2). Insert the DVD you want to lock.

    • 3). Press the "SETUP" button on your remote to access the "General Setup Page." This button is just below and to the right of the large, round navigation button.

    • 4). Select the "Disc Lock" option.

    • 5). Select the "Lock" option to lock the disc. You do not need to input a password to lock a disc.

    Unlocking a Disc

    • 1). Power on your Philips 5990 DVD player and your TV, if necessary.

    • 2). Insert the DVD you want to unlock.

    • 3). Press the "SETUP" button on your remote. This brings up the "General Setup Page." This button is just to the right and below the large navigation button on your remote.

    • 4). Choose the "Disc Lock" option.

    • 5). Select the "Unlock" option to unlock the disc. The DVD player will prompt you for a password; by default, the password is "136900." The DVD is now unlocked and available for you to watch.
