- Ring slings include a large piece of fabric and two large rings. To get started, lay the sling down with the right side down and gather the remaining fabric, or tail, into your hand. Next, take the tail and insert it through both rings, making sure there are no twists or knots in the fabric. Then thread the tail back through one of the rings so it is secure. The ring sling should look like a large loop of fabric with the tail hanging out.
- To put on your ring sling, put it over your head with it resting on your right shoulder. Be careful not to twist the fabric. To make the sling comfortable for you, spread out the material over your shoulder. Having the material spread out allows a better weight distribution when you carry your baby. However, keep in mind that if the material is spread too wide, it can affect your range of motion. In front of you there will be a large piece of fabric that forms a shape similar to a bowl; this is where your baby will sit.
- Using a ring sling allows you to carry your baby in different positions. For example, you can use the cradle carry, which allows your baby to be completely tucked into the sling. To achieve this carry, put on your sling and lean your baby against the shoulder without the sling. Slowly position your baby's feet inside the sling's pouch and lower your baby into the sling, trying to keep her as far as possible away from the rings. Once the baby is in the sling, you can tighten the sling by gradually pulling on the tail. Make sure you pull the tail evenly and do not put too much pressure on your baby.
You can also use the ring sling to carry your baby facing the front and on your hip. Ring slings are designed to be used from infancy through the toddler years.
