DIY Hydroponic Tunnels

    The Tunnel

    • 1). Mark out where your tunnel will go by placing stakes at the four corners and running string between the points.

    • 2). Drive foundation tubes vertically into the ground at the four corners and evenly spaced every 2 feet between the corners to the same height.

    • 3). Bend the galvanized pipe with the conduit bender. Place the center of the pipe in the slot of the bender and rock the bender slightly. Move the bender a few inches along the pipe and rock the bender again. Continue in this way until you get a quarter circle, return to the center and work your way to the other end until you've finished a half circle curve with two straight ends.

    • 4). Slip the straight ends of the bent conduit pipes into the two foundation pipes on opposite sides of the tunnel. Repeat this until all the foundation pipes are fitted with bent conduit pipes.

    • 5). Remove the stakes and string.

    • 6). Dig a 9-inch-deep trench 4 inches from the foundation tubes.

    • 7). Wrap the tunnel in poly sheeting. Pull the sheeting tight. Tuck the ends of the sheeting in the trench, and fill with river gravel.

    Hydroponics

    • 1). Install a waterproof electrical outlet inside the tunnel.

    • 2). Place hydroponic planters inside tunnel and fill with water. Add nutrients.

    • 3). Run airline tubing from air pumps to each planter. Add airstones to the tubing and submerse in the planter.

    • 4). Insert plants and close the tunnel doorway by overlapping plastic and placing large rocks or cement blocks on the flaps.
