- One of the first tasks in making miniature furniture is cutting the material, probably wood, into the shapes necessary for the piece. For example, a simple table requires a top and four legs that usually must be cut from larger components. The Dremel can be fitted with a number of accessories that make cutting possible and controllable. These are the structured tooth tungsten carbide cutters of several different types, steel cutting wheels and a spiral cutting bit.
- There are dozens of Dremel accessories designed for sanding. Sanding discs come in different grades for sanding wood: the coarser grades for rough sanding and the finer grades for finishing. The same is true for the tiny sanding drums with which it is possible to shape wood and other materials on curves. Both discs and drums are replaceable when worn. The legs of a table may be shaped with a coarse sanding drum and finished with a finer drum.
- Other Dremel accessories make detail work on miniature furniture possible. To engrave or decorate wood furniture, engraving cutters, the silicon carbide grinding stone or the diamond wheel point are appropriate choices. A table may have its surface carved with a simple geometric design or an elaborate floral pattern. Using the Dremel will inspire much more as the user gains skill.
