- Claymation training involves many different content areas that are involved in the making of a claymation film. Components covered in workshops and courses include writing the story, creating characters, fashioning dialogue, designing sets, creating lighting and sound effects, photographing the scenes and using movie-making software.
- Children can learn the basics of Claymation by enrolling in a workshop, day camp or overnight camp that focuses on the arts or Claymation specifically. Claymation workshops can be found for children of almost any age, and local artists and filmmakers also host Claymation seminars periodically in area libraries or schools to share information about Claymation history and techniques with both kids and adults.
- Adults who are interested in possibly pursuing a career in animation can incorporate a knowledge of Claymation techniques by taking stop-motion animation coursework as part of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Current college degrees in animation tend to incorporate a variety of forms because of the diversity of animation techniques in use today and may include 2-D, 3-D, traditional and computer animation. Institutions that offer stop-motion animation coursework or a focus in stop-motion animation include Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, Sarah Lawrence College and Woodbury University (see Resources).
- Online resources are another option for teachers who want to incorporate Claymation into their classroom projects or for individuals who want to learn more about how to do Claymation at home. These online workshops are designed to provide beginners with a basic knowledge of Claymation and give step-by-step instructions for planning and executing the stop-motion animation process. Online resources also include links to additional help using filmmaking software.
- Claymation education and training for adults can provide an easy, at-home creative outlet for filmmaking, and for children the training can help them develop their artistic, cooperative, communication and problem-solving skills while participating in a creative exercise.
