- 1). Measure and mark two sections of sewer pipe to the required length. Use a handsaw, circular saw or miter saw to make a straight 90-degree cut through both pipes at the marks. Remove any burrs from the sawed pipe ends using a utility knife or sandpaper.
- 2). Brush PVC primer around one outside end of both PVC pipe sections. Also prime the inside of a PVC fitting -- if using ABS pipe, no primer is needed on either pipe ends or the ABS fitting.
- 3). Brush PVC cement to both primed pipe ends, as well as inside the fitting. For ABS pipe, brush ABS cement to the two outside pipe ends, and inside the ABS fitting.
- 4). Push the fitting onto the end of one cemented pipe end, and push the cemented end of the second pipe into the remaining end of the fitting. Hold the pipes to the fitting for five seconds, while the cement starts to dry -- the cement will fully dry, usually in a matter of seconds.
