- Create colorful accent lighting by purchasing glass stones in a variety of colors and hot gluing them to the outside of the glass blocks. Using a 1/2-inch diameter diamond core drill bit, drill a hole into the side of the patio block. Thread a small string of white Christmas lights into the block to illuminate the stones.
- Use a 1/2-inch diameter diamond core drill bit and drill a hole on the side of a glass patio block. Thread a small string of white or colored Christmas lights into the hole, leaving the plug on the outside. Wrap a wide ribbon around the block so it looks like a gift package. The lights will illuminate the entire block and make a beautiful and unique holiday decoration.
- Clear glass blocks make beautiful frames for themed displays, but require a bit more handiwork to create. Once again, use a 1/2 inch diameter diamond core drill bit, but this time remove a 4x4 inch square section of the back of the glass block. Sand gently using fine gauge sand paper to soften the glass edges that remain. Fill the block with dried flowers, seashells, children's toys or action figures, baby items, or simply rely on your imagination to fill the block and create a see-through glass display that enhances the theme of room or area in the home. Add electric or battery operated lights to illuminate the display.
