- 1). Place the spindle speed of your engine lathe between 50 and 100 RPMs via the speed adjustment lever and then set the feed rate to the slowest rate possible via the feed rate adjustment lever.
- 2). Grip the shank of the tool blank in the jaws of the spindle and then tighten the jaws with the spindle wrench.
- 3). Place the knurling tool in the turret on the lathe and then place the tips of the knurling tool’s rollers against the side of the carbide. Position the knurling tool so the tips of the rollers rest flush against the side of the carbide and then tighten the bolts on the turret with the turret wrench.
- 4). Turn on the lathe and then engage the feed lever to automatically feed the turret forward. The knurling tool will move across the length of the tool blank and leave deep knurled grooves in the carbide. Pull up on the lever to stop the automatic feed once you knurl the entire surface of the carbide tip.
