- 1). Place 2 oz. of vodka into your measuring cup.
- 2). Select your desired scent theme. Fragrances combine three scents to create the desired overall effect. For a light scent, use a floral or citrus scent. Sweet scented oils are fragrances such as jasmine, rose and vanilla. Masculine perfumes use wood and grass essential oils to create a musky smell.
- 3). Determine which scent will be the base note, middle note and top note. Examples of base notes include sandalwood, vanilla, mosses, ferns, cinnamon and lichens. Examples of middle notes are geranium, ylang-ylang, lemongrass and neroli. Top notes include rose, bergamot, lime, lemon, orchid and lavender.
- 4). Begin experimenting by adding two drops of your base note and one of the middle and top note. Disperse each drop evenly into the mixture and waft the scent into your nose. Clear the scent out of your nose by smelling coffee beans between tests.
- 5). Mix in 1 tsp. of glycerin once your scent is finished. Glycerin is a fixative, which means that it holds the scent onto your skin longer than vodka alone.
- 6). Pour your new perfume into a glass perfume bottle with an atomizer. Test the fragrance by spraying some onto yourself. See how long the scents last and how strong they are initially.
- 7). Create a label for your new scent using a word processing program such as Microsoft Word. Word is especially useful for clip-art images. Remember that the clip-art images cannot be used if you intend to market the product, only if you are giving it away as gifts. Print your label for the bottles.
- 8). Make more of your perfume and pour it into the bottles.
- 9). Wrap the bottles with decorating supplies such as colored cellophane wrap, scrapbook paper, fabric and ribbon.
