Blogging balances my love of writing, shooting and editing video with my most important job title: Mom. I launched AnchorMommy to document my transition from broadcast journalism to stay-at-home mom. It's a platform for me to write about things that moms care about -- food, frugality and family -- with a fun, newsy twist.
But mostly it's about me, my adventures in parenthood and stuff that makes me laugh -- like typos. In addition to daily posts, I have so much fun putting together my weekly Momcasts -- which are video blogs designed to be a two minute escape that give moms something to laugh about and identify with!
Before AnchorMommy, I spent my days writing in broadcast news style as a TV news anchor and producer. Now I can engage in dialogue with other moms and write creatively -- my dream job!
Little Reason for Being a Stay-at-Home Mom:
Son, 2Most Rewarding Part of Being a SAHM:
Knowing everything about my son's day -- from what he ate for breakfast to what he said when he saw a butterfly in the backyard. Letting him nap as long as he needs to, instead of waking him up to rush off to daycare. Eating, playing and working together as a family. Reading bedtime stories and tucking my son in at night. (That last one is my favorite. I used to work evenings in the newsroom, and I really missed the bedtime routine.)Biggest Challenge You Face as a SAHM:
Finding "me" time!I work on my blog during my son's naptime and when he's in bed. So between blogging, cooking, cleaning, etc. I wind up with very little time for myself. I think that's true for most SAHMs, regardless of how many kids they have or whether they work from home or not.
Best Advice for Other Stay-at-Home Moms:
Give yourself permission to think big -- to think outside the house. Just because most of your day may be spent changing diapers, breaking up sibling fights, or unloading the dishwasher for the umpteenth time doesn't mean you can't -- or shouldn't -- use your talents. The Internet has opened up a whole world of possibilities for moms, options our own mothers didn't have.Think about what you have to offer and figure out a way to make it happen. If it comes from the heart, success and satisfaction will follow.
