- 1). Insert a new, or cleared memory card, into your digital camera.
- 2). Adjust the settings on your camera so the highest resolution option is set. Typically, you can do this on most digital cameras through the "Settings" or "Menu" button options.
- 3). Choose the "TIFF" file format for your pictures from your camera. TIFF format will render the highest quality pictures, but the format will also take up even more space on your memory card. If you need the extra room on your memory card, you can choose JPEG formatting.
- 4). Insert your memory card into your computer -- or use a USB cable cord to connect your camera with your computer -- and import your photos to your computer's picture editing program. If you have a PC, you will typically have Windows Photo Gallery; if you have a Mac, you will have iPhoto. If you're looking to do professional photo edits, you may want to invest in a solid photo-editing program, such as Photoshop or Nikon Capture.
- 5). Size the photo in the picture-editing program. Because most high-resolution pictures contain about 300 pixels for every square inch of a 4-by-6 picture, if you want to enlarge the picture you'll need to use more pixels. Picture-editing programs will do this automatically for you. For example, in Photo Gallery, left-click the high-resolution picture and select "Resize." Select the size you'd like, then click "Save." In iPhoto, click the high-resolution picture you want to enlarge, and click "Edit." Select "Crop" from the bottom menu, and from the drop menu choose the size you like.
- 6). Insert high-quality photo paper into your printer. Select "File," and then "Print" from your photo-editing program. Open your printer's settings, and select "Photo Paper." Press "Print."
