How to Make a Wooden Wine Glass Rack

    • 1). Place one of the pieces of 1 x 4 x 14 3/8-inch lumber on a worktable. Make several marks from one of the long edges at 1 3/8 inches. Put the framing square on the marks and draw a line down the length of the lumber.

    • 2). Start at one end and make marks on the line just drawn at 2 1/8, 5½, 8 7/8 and 12¼. Drill a ¾-inch hole on each of these marks. Set the framing square on the edge of the lumber and move the perpendicular leg of the framing square so it is against one side of the hole. Draw a line from the hole to the edge of the lumber. Repeat this action for each side of the holes.

    • 3). Cut the lines with a band saw or jig saw. Sand the cut edges with 100-grit sandpaper. Shape the two ends and the front of the wine glass rack with a router and a round-over router bit.

    • 4). Sand the edges again to smooth out any ripples caused by the router, if needed. Put the remaining piece of lumber on the worktable. Route all four edges with the round-over router bit. Sand the edges afterward with 100-grit sandpaper and then turn the piece over.

    • 5). Measure from one of the long edges and make several marks at 1¾ inches. Place the framing square on the marks and draw a line down the center. Drill four pilot holes evenly spaced out with a 1/8-inch drill bit.

    • 6). Turn the piece back over and make several marks at 1 3/8 inches. Put the framing square on the marks and draw a faint line down the length of the lumber. Apply glue to the back edge of the wine glass rack, align it with the line just drawn and secure it with 1½-inch drywall screws. Clean up excess glue immediately with a damp cloth.
