Mrs.
Charlaine Harris was born 25th November 1951 in Tunica, Mississippi.
She has been titles a New York Times best selling author and has been in the writing business for over 20 years.
She lives in Magnolia, south Arkansas, with her three children and her husband.
In the early days her writing career began with ghosts in poetry, and then she began writing plays and teenage problems.
However, it was not until she began to write books that she really gained recognition.
The first book series was named Aurora Teagarden Series which started with "Real Murders" back in 1990 and this series ended with the final book in 2003 - "Poppy Done To Death".
There were eight books written in this series.
From 1996 onwards Charlaine Harris then began writing the series named Shakespeare, otherwise known as Lily Bard.
"Shakespeare's Landlord" was the first book from five, while "Shakespeare's Counselor" concluded the series in 2001.
Then in the same year she began to write her most loved and well known series - that of Sookie Stackhouse, or also known as The Southern Vampire Series.
"Dead Until Dark" was the first and at the moment the last to be released was "A Touch of Dead", which is actually a compilation of Sookie-universe stories.
The novels are based around a barmaid with telepathic powers who falls in love with a vampire.
The story line is situated in a small town called Bon Temps in Louisiana.
The first in the Sookie Stackhouse Series - "Dead Until Dark" - collected the Anthony Award for the Best Paperback Mystery and that was in 2001.
To this day the Sookie Stackhouse Series has been released in many different countries in many different languages.
The producer, Alan Ball (famed for his production of "Six Feet Under"), approached Charlaine Harris to ask if she would be interested in allowing the series to be the basis for an HBO television production.
The first of this television series was screened in September 2008 and was named "True Blood".
Although "True Blood" was a little slow to really gain popularity, there has been a second series ("True Blood 2") already shot and screened, which has been received very well indeed.
In October of 2001 Charlaine Harris also began writing a further series of books named the Harper Connelly Series, which are writing about a young woman who uses her clairvoyant abilities to find dead people.
The last of the current series of four books was released in 2009.
