If you are going on a ghost hunt or plan on conducting a seance should you be doing so with the aid of a psychic or medium? In this article I hope to give you a clearer understanding of your options.
Investigators of the paranormal are split on the use of psychics or mediums.
I don't usually take one when I go on an investigation but that's not to say they don't have there uses.
If you do choose to use a medium or psychic make sure to thoroughly do your research to make sure you aren't going to be taken for a ride by them.
I don't use one as I've never come across a medium that really convinced me they where genuine (and I've probably watched too many Derren Brown shows) but many swear by them.
When you contact them try not to give them any details about the exact location they will be visiting to be sure that they aren't simply going to look up info on the internet and fool you with an act on the investigation.
There is no better example of this than the famous "psychic and medium" Derek Acorah.
Some members of the Most Haunted team, with whom he worked, believed he was making things up after doing a little research and so they set a trap to try and catch him out.
The shows parapsychologist came up with a fake name of Kreed Kafer (an anagram of Derek Faker) and mentioned the name in passing to Acorah in the hope he would use it during the show.
Acorah fell for the trap as during recording he claimed to be possessed by the spirit of one Kreed Kafer.
Soon after Acorah left the show.
Now I'm not saying that all psychics and mediums are fake (I have an open mind on the subject) but you use one at the groups own risk.
Probably the best way to find a good psychic or medium is through word of mouth amongst other ghost hunters and paranormal investigators One final thing to be wary of is using psychics or mediums that are egotistical.
There is a thin line between having a strong belief in your own ability and being big headed.
Big headed individuals can very well possess psychic abilities but the problem is that you will soon discover everything on the investigation revolves around them, in their opinion.
If you meet with a psychic or medium you consider a little big headed then I advise you to go with your gut feeling, as they can certainly be more harm than good.
