The Whole Truth and Nothing But: "General Hospital" Recap for Thursday, Sept. 4

Carly is absolutely glowing a she pops into Jason's office to tell him that Jax is home. Jason says he's happy for her, but he seems cautious. Carly declares that Kate is no longer a problem because Jax knows she's a liar. She is also so relieved that Jax never found out that she slept with Sonny in the limo. She and Sonny meet at the hotel later, and Sonny wants to set things right between them. They do and wish each other happiness.

Enjoy it while you can, I always say.

Alexis doesn't share Jason's joy over the reunion. She doesn't want to see Jax be hurt by Carly again, believing that Carly and Sonny have a love/hate relationship and an unbreakable bond. Jax admits that he's had the same conversation with himself, but Carly is committed to their marriage. Alexis sees that there's no getting through to him, so she asks Jax to watch out for his bro. Jerry honors his enamorata's request - sort of - meaning he speaks with Jax, but he raves about Carly. He's jealous - he saw Alexis' concern and how territorial she is about Jax.

Sonny and Kate come home from the island still in the island mood, complete with PDA (that's public displays of affection). Diane, Max and Clarice are all there together, Diane and Max giving signals back and forth and Clarice needing to speak with her boss. The happy couple isn't interested, but Diane will not let up. Finally, Sonny Sonny goes off with Diane. Max tries with Carly, but he can't go through with it.

When Diane realizes that, she's furious. Sonny is suspicious and angry at the way Diane and Max are acting. He gives his bodyguard and attorney notice that he expects them to be behind him in this marriage, or he will be accepting resignations.

Elizabeth wheels Spinelli down the hall, Maxie by her side. Elizabeth avoids making eye contact with Maxie as much as possible and is very abrupt. Elizabeth prepares Spinelli's release papers. Before long, Maxie and Elizabeth are trading barbs. Jason arrives and wheels Spinelli away, leaving Maxie asking at the elevator how he's going to take care of Spinelli, who needs rest. The elevator door closes with Maxie outside.

Jason brings Spinelli home and lectures him about his stakeouts. He asks The Jackal why he is so envious of his, Jason's, life. He has nothing to apologize for. Bottom line, Jason's lost just about everyone. He doesn't want to lose Spinelli. Maxie arrives with a huge bag of hair products plus some clothing so that she can live at the penthouse and care for Spinelli.

At the courthouse, Ric tells his client he has enough evidence for reasonable doubt, but at this point, Johnny is betting his life. He wants Johnny to plead to a lesser charge. Johnny explains that he can't do it or his father will kill everyone in sight. Outside the courtroom. Tracy swills bottled water and Alan baits her - does she want Johnny dead as well as away from Lulu? She tells him to shut up. Meanwhile the jurors are upset that it's a death penalty case. That's the sort of thing the jurors should have been questioned about before being chosen, of course, but this is a soap opera. The trial begins with strong opening arguments from both sides. Then ground-laying witnesses are called - the coroner and police at the scene, for instance.

Lulu is her old self when Nikolas arrives at Shadybrook. He's very happy for his sister; she says that being close to Laura meant everything to her. She admits that Johnny is on her mind all the time, and she's aware that his trial has begun. Her happiness won't last long. Lucky arrives with the bad news about Johnny's "special circumstances." Lulu's upset and wants to testify. Her brothers want her to concentrate on getting well. Lulu, however, blames herself for Johnny's predicament and tells Laura so. Now Johnny may die.

Claudia takes the stand. Wonder what she'll say.

Kate and Clarice face off at the Crimson offices. Clarice tells Kate that she's on her side always, she's loyal to her and that she cares about her. She explains that she overheard Max and Diane talking about Sonny and Carly having sex after Michael was admitted to the long-term care facility. Kate's face shows a subtle, shocked reaction...for the moment.
