The top 10 percent of income earners in the occupation made $58,480 or more while the bottom 10 percent of income earners made $22,450 or less.
- Painting, coating, and decorating workers apply paint or other coatings to objects like furniture, glassware, pottery and toys. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the average annual income of workers in this occupation was $26,680 in May 2010. The top 10 percent of income earners in the field earned $39,260 or more and the bottom 10 percent made $17,050 or less.
- Transportation equipment painters work with cars, trucks, buses, jets and other transportation equipment. Bureau of Labor Statistics data show that the average annual income of transportation equipment painters was $42,160 in May 2010. The top 10 percent of workers in the occupation earned $64,110 or more and the bottom 10 percent earned $24,710 or less.
- While many painters coat objects in construction or industrial settings, some painters are fine artists who use paint as a medium to create art. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that the average annual income of fine artists, including painters, illustrators and sculptors, was $53,080 in May 2010. Income earned by fine artists can vary significantly depending upon the popularity of their work. The top 10 percent of income earners in the field made $89,720 or more while the bottom 10 percent made $19,190 or less.
