German Restaurants in Tennessee

    • A family-owned and operated establishment, Gasthaus Bistro & Pub is in Manchester, a community 70 miles northeast of Chattanooga. The menu begins with eight appetizers, such as the potato pancakes and the wurstsalad. A signature German entree is the fleischpflanzerl, two seasoned meatloaf patties in a brown gravy. Another is the zigeunerschnitzel, which consists of pork loin with a bell pepper gravy and hourse-made noodles. The restaurant serves more than 20 beers, the majority of which are German imports. Gasthaus Bistro & Pub is open Wednesdays through Sundays for lunch and dinner. On Tuesdays, the restaurant is open in the evenings, but offers an all-you-can-eat German buffet rather than the standard menu. Reservations are requested for parties of six or more.     Restaurant Linderhoff

    • Restaurant Linderhoff is on Kingston Pike in the Farragut neighborhood of Knoxville. Four appetizers lead the menu, including the herrings marinated in sour cream and served with imported gherkin pickles. A specialty of the house is the Old World wurst, a house-made sausage made with veal and pork, grilled and then served alongside mashed potatoes and red cabbage. Another featured entree is the wienerschnitzel, pork tenderloin dipped in egg and breadcrumbs fried and accompanied by salad and fried potatoes. The restaurant offers a selection of house-made desserts nightly. Restaurant Linderhoff serves dinner Tuesdays through Saturdays and closes Sundays and Mondays. Reservations are suggested for parties of six or more. Casual attire is the norm. A children's menu is available.

    The Gerst Haus

    • The Gerst Haus has served the city of Nashville since 1955. To begin the meal, the restaurant serves 15 appetizers like the austern rouladen, oysters breaded with ground crackers, deep friend and served with cocktail sauce for dipping. A featured dinner is the pig knuckles, accompanied by house-baked rye bread. Another is the kasseler rippchen, a smoked pork chop. Most dinners come with a choice of two sides with options including cucumbers and onions in sour cream dressing, hot potato salad and sauerkraut. A signature dessert is the apple strudel, served with vanilla ice cream in rum sauce. The bar serves 26 draft beers and numerous bottled imports and domestics. The Gerst Haus is open daily for lunch and dinner. Reservations are only taken for parties of eight or more. Casual attire is appropriate.
