When it comes to moving house, there is so much to organise. Besides organising the family and the moving date as well as reorganising your mortgage theres the practical side of the moving, which can take a few weeks to prepare for. Heres a few of the moving issues you will need to consider.

Organising Transport: When moving house, you may need to consider self van hire or a removal company. Taking loads in your car will take a huge amount of time, leaving you tired and weary, and can cause long term damage to your car. So its best to fork out the small amount for a van to hire. When choosing a van, look for the best size for the amount of goods you have and also check you have the correct driving licence if self driving.

Packing: You may think this will be easy, but in fact it is probably the most time consuming task that requires attention to detail and excellent organisational skills. Before you pack, make sure you have enough moving boxes. Moving boxes come in different sizes for different items and should be double walled and include bubble wrap for heavier items. The amount of boxes required will depend on the size of your move.

So after gathering your boxes, its time to organise the packing. Make sure the items packed away in each box dont make it too heavy, as this will make it harder to move and more likely that you will damage your back! If your finding some boxes too heavy (i.e. box of plates), remove some of the heavy items and re-pack with lighter items. Secondly, make unpacking easier on yourself by packing your house in logical order (i.e. kitchen items together) and labelling the boxes.

Security Checks: Before you leave the property, its vital that you make those important security checks. Make sure all windows are closed and locked (keys need to be either transferred to new owners or left in a safe place for them), all doors are secure and locked (make sure the locks are still in correct working order a few weeks before) and that all entrances or exits to the garden or house are secure (no large holes in fence etc). Also, if you have an outside light, leave this on as a preventative measure.
