If you've come across a case of lice, there's a really good chance that a head lice comb will be the centerpiece of getting rid of these things.
Unfortunately, even the best shampoos available can only succeed at killing the lice.
But who really wants a head full of dead lice? Talk about being a dead head! The simple truth of the matter is that it will be important to work through the hair careful, and methodically, to remove the dead lice and their eggs.
If you've never used a head lice comb, note that it's best to use it on a wet head.
If you just comb through after shampooing and rinsing, it will remove the lice and nits better.
I wish using such a comb was as simple as just normally combing your hair.
But, ordinarily, if you miss sections of hair it's not a big deal.
In this case, you want to really segregate the hair into sections and work the head lice comb through each portion.
Each bunch of hair should really only be about an inch across, so have a seat and be patient, because this will be a bit tedious.
It's best to start the head lice comb at the scalp and bring it forward to the tip of the hair.
With each pass, you'll need to wipe the comb clean.
Otherwise, be prepared to rinse it in some alcohol.
You really don't want to redistribute the dead lice, so do this after each pass.
After doing this so rigorously, you'd like to think that it would be a one-shot solution.
However, it's possible that some eggs were not affected and there could be hatchlings roaming around.
I know.
Lice aren't fun.
At the end of the day, you realize how the head lice comb is really the core of the removal process.
So, let's talk about a few things to make sure you are armed and equipped for the task at hand.
You'll probably find the top quality head lice comb will be made of metal.
It will have long teeth that are quite fine in their spacing.
Another sign of a quality comb is that there will be a seal where the teeth adjoin the handle.
If this is not the case, then the lice can actually stow away in there! It's quite possible that you could end up with a free head lice comb, depending on the shampoo you've purchased.
Just keep in mind that sometimes this is a bit of a marketing gimmick.
Once it's in there, they can claim it comes complete with a head lice comb.
The quality isn't at issue in that otherwise true statement! Sure, anything is better than nothing.
But you probably do not want to be hassled by a comb that lets lice through larger-than-necessary spacing.
You may not even realize it, since they are so hard to spot.
And if you do, you'll likely have the unexciting task of taking them out by tweezers! I don't want to wrap up my discussion of the head lice comb without mentioning the electric version.
Some people prefer not to use medicated shampoos.
The electric comb will kill the lice as it is run through the hair.
The battery-operated too has metal times that kill the lice on contact.
It is able to remove them as it kills them, which is rather efficient, I must say.
This is an excellent option to the traditional lice comb if you are allergic to shampoo ingredients or otherwise simply want to avoid chemicals.
