The 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0L differed little from the 1998 redesigned version, according to the website MSN Autos. The pickup truck came in a wide range of trim packages and drivetrain options, with the 3-liter engine used in the four-wheel drive versions. The 2000 Ranger 3.0L had an original retail price of $15,920 to $19,785. - The 2000 Ford Ranger came with either a 2.5-liter, I4 engine (with its four cylinders laid out in a straight line) or a 3-liter, V-6 (six cylinders in two angled "V" shaped rows), according to MSN Autos. The 2.5-liter engine produced 119 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 146 pound-feet of torque at 3,000 rpm. Horsepower measures the engine's raw power, while torque measures how much twisting force is applied to the axle to turn the wheels. The 3-liter V-6 produced 145 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 180 pound-feet of torque at 3,650 rpm. A more powerful 4-liter, V-6 engine was also available as an option on some versions. This engine produced 160 horsepower at 4,200 rpm and 220 pound-feet of torque at 3,000 rpm.
- The truck had front-wishbone suspension with stabilizer bar and torsion springs as well as rear-beam suspension with stabilizer bar and leaf springs, according to "Motor Trend." A five-speed manual overdrive transmission was standard, though a four-speed automatic overdrive transmission was available on all trim packages. Ford offered the Ranger with either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive, with a maximum towing capacity of between 3,860 lb. and 5,860 lb., depending on engine type and drive train.
- The 2000 Ranger was 201.7 inches long, 70.3 inches wide, 67.5 inches high and had a wheelbase of 125.9 inches, according to Edmunds. The truck also had a 7.4-inch ground clearance, a curb weight of 3,599 lb. and a gross weight of 5,080 lb. The truck could seat three to five people, depending on the version, though all came with two doors.
- All versions of the 2000 Ford Ranger included driver and passenger airbags, as well as anti-lock brakes, according to MSN Autos. The truck received a safety rating of four stars out of a possible five from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for both front and passenger front-impact crash tests. It also received a five-star front-side, side-impact safety rating.
