- Harold Brasington, a retired race car driver, is responsible for constructing the Darlington Raceway. The track took a year to build and was placed on land that was once a cotton and peanut farm.
- This track has a unique shape that is basically an oval with two ends of different shapes. The track was built this way so that it would not disturb a minnow pond that belonged to the farmer who sold the land the track is built on.
- Darlington Raceway is known as the "Track too Tough to Tame" because racers find it difficult to deal with the track's shape. Since the two ends are so different, it's hard for crews to design a car's handling to work well during both turns.
- A number of different events find their way to Darlington Raceway every year. These include races that are part of the NASCAR Spirit Cup, the NASCAR Nationwide Series and the USAC Silver Crown Series.
- The International Speedway Corporation is currently the owner and operator of the Darlington Raceway. In recent years, their NASCAR rival, Speedway Motorsports, Inc., have offered to buy Darlington. Instead, millions of dollars were put into renovating the track, and ownership has not changed hands.
