A lot of people have AdSense ads on their Websites and blogs.
Almost anyone can sign up via Google, they allow the ads to run on most Web sites and blogs, and you get paid a few cents to a few dollars when someone clicks on the ads.
Even better perhaps, Google picks ads automatically to complement your content.
Unfortunately most people do not do very well with AdSense ads as they miss some of the basics.
Here are some tips.
You want the ads to appear "above the fold," meaning visible without scrolling.
If they are hidden down low instead of in your face few people will see or click on them.
Surprisingly, almost no one seems to complain if they are prominent.
Google recommendations about which ad block sizes are most effective are usually right on the money! Try their recommendations first.
Bigger is generally better You want your ads to blend in with your site: same color and size of text, same type of links.
You don't want them to scream "I'm an advertisement!" Some sites perform very well with AdSense, some do not.
In general, product based sites do the best, but there are no guarantees.
Less is generally more.
You will make more money from fewer ads, as with fewer ads, the ones that pay the most per click are displayed.
The above are guidelines that generally hold true, but you need to experiment and try different things to see what works best on your site.
AdSense just like all ads needs some fine tuning per site for maximum performance.
I'm not getting rich, but the extra many hundreds of dollars a month sure is nice!
