Intro:

John Sutton was born on January 16, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. While working as an usher in his hometown, John got to know the stars of the American Wrestling Association and eventually began working as a security guard for the company. He became a friend of Paul "Butcher" Vachon and began working for that family's Grand Prix Wrestling company in Montreal during the early '70s. Don Jardine, the original Spoiler, came up with the name of Sir Oliver Humperdink as a way to draw heat from the French Canadian crowds that would immediately hate such an English sounding name.

The Hollywood Blondes:

While Oliver Humperdink refereed and wrestled on occasion, he was mostly a manager throughout his career. The first big name team that he managed was the Hollywood Blondes. That team consisted of Buddy Roberts, who would later become part of the Fabulous Freebirds, and Jerry Brown. The team had such a legacy that two other groups of men wound up calling themselves the Hollywood Blondes. Rip Rogers and Ted Oates used the name in Mid-Atlantic Wrestling during the '80s and the team of Steve Austin and Brian Pillman went by that name during the '90s.

The House of Humperdink:

Sir Oliver Humperdink spent a good portion of his career working in the Florida territory. In 1980, he won the Pro Wrestling Illustrated Manager of the Year Award. In addition to the Florida, The House of Humperdink (the name which he would give to his stable of wrestlers) would cause havoc in Jim Crockett Promotions, the Central States, Mid-South Wrestling, and Toronto.

The Battle for Bam Bam:

In 1987, Bam Bam Bigelow made his World Wrestling Entertainment debut.

For weeks, all the managers in the company tried to sign him to a contract. Oliver Humperdink made his debut in the company as the manager that won the battle for Bam Bam. For the first time in his career, Oliver Humperdink found himself managing a fan favorite. A few months later, Paul Orndorff hired Oliver Humperdink after having a falling out with Bobby Heenan.

World Championship Wrestling:

Both Bam Bam Bigelow and Oliver Humperdink left World Wrestling Entertainment in 1988. He would appear at Bam Bam's side when Bam Bam fought Barry Windham for the US Championship at Starrcade 1988. He would also go on to manage the New Wild Samoans. In the early '90s, he was renamed Big Daddy Dink and had a biker/roadie-type gimmick for the Freebirds. Ironically, the final team he managed was an incarnation of the group formed by one of the first men that he managed.

Health Issues:

Oliver Humperdink retired in 1993. In 2001, he had a pacemaker installed in his heart. That has led to multiple bouts of pneumonia. In 2011, he announced that he had bladder cancer. Doctor's were unable to operate on him due to complications from pneumonia. He passed away on March 20 at the age of 62.
