About Burton Clothing

    History

    • Founded by legendary snowboarding pioneer and visionary Jake Burton, Burton Snowboards has been making gear since 1977. Burton began producing outwear in 1984 and has been improving and altering the line ever since to meet the changing demands of a burgeoning sport, while reflecting the styles of the times. Today Burton is a leading name in snowboard outerwear and apparel, as well as hard goods. It manufactures every type of snowboard clothing including outerwear, layering, hats, gloves and casual wear. Burton also owns several other apparel companies that produce less-technical streetwear including Gravis Footwear and Analog Streetwear.

    Types

    • Burton outerwear (jackets, pants, gloves) has long been classified into different lines, each providing its own style, level of protection and price point. Category names have come, gone and morphed over the years, but Burton still offers several lines. The most recent Burton outerwear lines are Ronin, AK and Burton for men. Women's lines include Burton, B by Burton and AK. Shaun White, a Burton-sponsored rider and one of the top talents in the world, also has his own signature line called White. Burton gloves also have an additional line for Park and Pipe and a Protection line that includes burlier gloves with built-in padding and impact protection. For younger riders, Burton has girls' and boys' outerwear.

    Function

    • In addition to technical, functional outerwear, Burton has a line of layering that includes first-layer undergarments; heavier mid-layer fleeces, jackets and sweatshirts; and snowboard-specific socks. They also have a casual layering line labeled Playering that includes hoodies, polos, button-downs and other more casual shirts, designed to be both functional and stylish, meeting riding and after-riding needs.

    Features

    • Burton not only manufactures performance snowboarding apparel, but also an extensive line of casual wear that includes T-shirts, sweaters, jeans and other nontechnical, casual clothes. They also manufacture accessories like belts and wallets. There are separate lines for men, women, boys and girls.

    Benefits

    • Burton uses the latest technology in its clothing with the aim of comprehensive protection from the elements, waterproofing and superior breathability and moisture wicking. Some of the more advanced technology used in various Burton pieces includes welded seams (eliminates stitching, reducing weight and increasing waterproofing), RiRi AQUAzip™ water-resistant zipper technology and Dryride fabrication. Burton incorporates the strictest standards to ensure that its clothing is among the most functional on the slopes.

    Size

    • Different Burton jackets and pants incorporate different sizing to provide a tailored fit for every rider, ensuring the top comfort and performance. Sig Fit is the most traditional fit, baggy without being too lose. Slim Fit incorporates narrower shoulders on jackets and slimmer low-rise waist lines and tighter leg fit on pants. Team Relaxed Fit features a longer, roomier fit adding mobility and comfort for those that prefer a bigger, baggier fit. Items are labeled accordingly.
