How to Treat and Care for Burn Spots on the Lawn

    • 1). Water the burn patches as soon as you notice them starting to form. The water will dilute the excess nitrogen so that it stops burning your lawn.

    • 2). Sprinkle lime over the brown patches. This will help repair minor burn damage.

    • 3). Remove the surface layer of the burn patch and reseed the area. This is the only way to repair severe damage.

    • 4). Switch to rye or fescue grass if you continue to have problems; these grasses as they are less sensitive to excess nitrogen.
