Foot Warts

The warts that appear in the foot are called plantar warts.
These warts appear on the soles of the feet.
Because of the pressure put into the soles, the warts are pushed deep inside.
Warts are usually benign and painless but foot warts can be extremely painful while standing or walking.
They cause much discomfort to the person who got them.
Foot warts are caused by the same virus which causes other types of warts.
Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) enters the body through tiny cracks and breaks of the skin and causes infection.
In this case, the virus causes infection on the foot.
The virus can be transmitted when shoes are shared with somebody who is already infected, walking barefoot and even socks.
The virus is highly contagious and therefore attacks as quickly as it gets the chance.
The development of the warts however depends on the immune system of the person.
If the person is strong then the virus will remain latent without infecting but if the person is weak then the virus will start showing all symptoms.
Foot warts are very common and it can appear in anybody, young or old.
They are mostly skin colored but sometimes they may also change colors.
Foot warts also become seed warts when tiny dots appear on the warts.
These tiny dots are caused by the surrounding blood vessels.
Foot warts can sometimes be mistaken for callous or corns.
Foot warts are small, bumpy and fleshy gray or brown solid or hard growths on the sole.
On noticing these warts, a visit to a dermatologist is recommended so that the warts don't spread and so that they may be removed before they cause much discomfort and pain.
If untreated the warts can spread very fast and new small warts will appear very soon.
The treatments for foot warts are: oUse of medicines with salicylic acid: there are many topical medicines that have this component.
They are very effective.
oDuct tape: this tape can be used to cover the warts for six days, after that soak the feet in the water before scrubbing the sole using pumice stone.
oCryotherapy: this is the method of freezing the warts using liquid nitrogen.
The warts fall off within a couple of days.
oCantharidin: this chemical is found in a particular beetle and causes blister in the warts from within.
It is a very effective chemical for treating warts.
oElectrodessication: Minor surgery using electricity may be done by the doctor to remove the warts.
oLaser therapy is very popular but a last option where laser beams are used to remove the warts.
oImmunotherapy: here immunomodulator agents are injected to trigger the immune system of the body against the virus.
